That SoCalOrange Holiday Feeling…

In case you needed something to get you in the mood for the holidays, we just received this very nice note from one of our scholarship winners, Mark Hernandez.

Dear SULA Scholarship,

I am writing to thank you for your generous $600 SULA scholarship. I was surprised yet ecstatic when talking on the phone with Michael Rippe. It really made my day and also my semester.

Architecture is a major that frequently demands new materials and new programs, and this scholarship helped tremendously. I am a third year student and after this semester I will begin my journey abroad to learn about architecture outside the country. First I will visit Japan for 6-weeks during the summer and then I will be in Florence for the next semester. Thanks to you, it is much easier to make this step in my education.

The thought of having to make school and housing payments sucks up so much time and energy, by rewarding me with this SULA scholarship you have given me the opportunity to focus on what is most important, learning. I could not find an address for SULA so I hope you don’t mind me emailing this letter. Thank you again for helping me to achieve my goal.

Best,

Mark Hernandez

A few months ago, our other scholarship winner, Lizardo Reyes, sent this picture of his dorm room as he was unpacking for the summer semester.

We are so grateful to be of service to Syracuse students and the Orange community in Southern California. Wishing you a happy, healthy holiday and all the best in 2013!
